Recording in segments

Save a long local recording as smaller files. For disk-only recording, each segment is a complete video that can be opened independently. A brief capture gap can occur between segments; live streaming continues.

Open a camera recording with one-minute segments

Try MP4 recording with one-minute segments. MP4 is opt-in and requires browser encoder support. Unsupported browsers keep their normal fallback format; PCM recording takes precedence over this option.

  1. Choose your camera and microphone, then press the recording button.
  2. Record for at least two minutes. Move in front of the camera and speak near each minute boundary.
  3. Stop recording and allow each download to finish. Open every file separately and check its picture and sound.
  4. Start another take to check that recording works again without refreshing.

splitrecording=1 requests one-minute files. record=12000 requests about 12 Mbps video; actual bitrate, resolution and frame rate depend on the camera and encoder. When automatic splitting is enabled on iPhone/iPad, segments use at most five minutes and an estimated 100 MiB size target (about 66 seconds at 12 Mbps). Actual sizes vary. An explicit split interval overrides this estimate.

Cloud recording: when Dropbox or Google Drive is receiving this recording, the encoder remains continuous. The local split files are continuation parts: keep all parts and reassemble them in order. This preserves the existing single-file cloud upload.
